Birkenstock is no stranger to collaborations. The German shoemaker previously partnered with Jil Sander, Manolo Blahnik, Proenza Schouler and Rick Owens for its Birkenstock 1774 line. This year, however, marks a fresh chapter with new creative platform Ensemble 1774, together with guest designer Thibo Denis.
Unlike earlier projects that re-contextualised existing silhouettes, the former footwear designer for Dior Men, who’s now responsible for the same at Louis Vuitton, conceptualises three entirely new designs. The trio feature sport-inspired soles with dynamic lines, signalling a decisive departure from Birkenstock’s classic flat outsole.

Each silhouette, named after historic factory locations, is a nod to Birkenstock’s roots. Firstly, the Uerzell (SGD600) mule features a visible cork midsole that recalls the brand’s sandal heritage. Meanwhile, the Stroedt (SGD745) is a low-profile lace-up that echoes their signature strap configuration. Finally, the Goerlitz (SGD830) emerges as the most expressive, boasting an exaggerated sole, chunky laces and dual upper straps that boldly amplify the classic Arizona.

The traditional cork footbed gives way to the new Birkenstock Blue Footbed, a removable, anatomically-shaped insole rooted in orthopaedic tradition. Perfect for urban exploration, it balances heritage with modern practicality. Colour, too, takes centrestage. Inspired by the spirit of 1970s Yosemite, Denis infuses warmth into the sleek, contemporary designs.
With Ensemble 1774, Birkenstock redefines what orthopaedic comfort can look like. By inviting talents like Thibo Denis to build from the ground up, the brand proves that two-and-a-half centuries of functional heritage can indeed support athletic, exploratory design. Head to the Marina Bay Sands store to try them on.
