Following its first stop in Shanghai last year, Loewe’s travelling #LOEWECraftWorld exhibition now makes its way to Tokyo, Japan. Curated by Jonathan Anderson and designed in collaboration with OMA, the Spanish brand’s first major exhibition is a sensorial journey that takes visitors through its rich 179-year history.

Gracing Tokyo’s Harajuku district, the immersive showcase is a celebration of craft and artistic techniques passed down through the ages. Within the 1300-sqm space, visitors can look forward to discovering a series of interactive rooms. One of which takes you inside the visionary imaginations that inspired Loewe’s recent collaborations, particularly those of Studio Ghibli and Kyoto-based ceramicists Suna Fujita.

Plenty of other surprises also await, from a recreation of the Loewe atelier to a suspended, moving flower garden. There’s even a series of knee-high exhibits for children to interact with. The space also features custom configurations, such as an illuminated façade that glows with Loewe iconography at night. Another is a staircase waiting for guests to plaster with thousands of stickers.
Loewe's Crafted World Tokyo also will showcase a specially curated series of works from cultural projects across Japan. This includes a video documenting the Loewe Foundation’s support for the Onishi family, who have been crafting ceremonial Kama tea kettles in Kyoto for over 400 years. Alongside are works by Loewe Craft Prize finalists the likes of Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Moe Watanabe and 2019 winner Genta Ishizuka.
