Vacheron Constantin made waves in the horology world when it re-released the 222 timepiece in 2022 under the Historiques line. For the uninitiated, Historiques is all about contemporary reissues of archival Vacheron Constantin timepieces, and the 222 was a legendary Jorg Hysek design that gained immense popularity when it debuted in the 1970s to coincide with Vacheron Constantin’s 222nd anniversary.
Several years on, the 222 returns for the 2025 reissue, this time in full stainless steel. Complete with a matte blue dial, the timepiece encapsulates a harmonious blend of contradictions. It’s sporty yet refined, robust yet understated, and resolutely modern while deeply rooted in horological tradition.
For one thing, the signature monobloc tonneau case makes a confident presence on any wrist. Its 37 MM diameter (in contrast to the similar 41 MM Overseas) is especially popular in the watch community. Finishing touches include a fluted bezel that adds a layer of visual intrigue.
Other charming features include the visible self-winding caliber through the sapphire crystal caseback, as well as a robust oscillating weight, which reprises an engraving of the OG 222 logo. The integrated bracelet makes another statement, combining vertical satin brushed and polished links that sparkle under light.
With a power reserve of 40 hours and water resistance of up to 50 M, the Historiques 222 is a solid timepiece for everyday adventures. In Singapore, the stainless steel model is currently a boutique exclusive, priced at SGD46,100.
