The Hand In Hand project is an ongoing heartfelt initiative by Fendi. Beyond just creating beautiful products, it also shines a spotlight on the people, the craft and the savoir-faire behind them. The project began with Italian artisans whom Silvia Venturini Fendi handpicked to showcase the rich artistry of local traditions.
Tasked with reinterpreting the iconic Baguette, these talented artisans sought to breathe new life into the classic design. They introduced techniques like the tombolo aquilano lace of Abruzzo, the Piedmont region’s famed bandera embroidery, as well as hand-sculpted leather from Tuscany.
The Hand In Hand project has since expanded beyond Italy. Collaborations worldwide continue to create even more extraordinary variations of the beloved Baguette. After partnering with the likes of Aya Nishikata in Japan and Tiffany & Co. workshop for the exclusive Tiffany Baguette in sterling silver, Fendi set its sights on Scotland.

Together with Clare Campbell, the founder and co-owner of Prickly Thistle, it birthed an exclusive tartan Baguette. Against tobacco brown, a weave of five distinct yellow threads pay homage to the five founding Fendi sisters. Following tradition, the bespoke Fendi tartan is officially named and registered within the Scottish Register of Tartans, ensuring its status as a unique work of art protected by intellectual property rights.
The Baguette then makes its journey to the Fendi factory in Florence for the finishing touches. Each bag boasts a pleated motif and tiny buckles along the sides that add a touch of punk rock attitude. Taking design cues from a belt, the shoulder strap sees two rows of eyelets and an adjustable buckle brown leather offer multiple ways of wearing.
This unique collaboration between Fendi and Prickly Thistle truly exemplifies the spirit of the Hand In Hand project. The rich heritage of Scottish tartan combines with the impeccable craftsmanship of Fendi artisans to deliver a Baguette worth collecting.
