The Horizon Aluminum may be Louis Vuitton’s latest luggage milestone, but its story begins with Marc Newson. When the maison first invited the acclaimed industrial designer into its orbit, the choice required little explanation. Newson already boasted an impressive portfolio, including the aluminium Lockheed Lounge chair, one of the 20th century’s most valuable design objects. For Louis Vuitton, he first created a biomorphic rucksack in 2014, though a far more ambitious project was already underway.
That project eventually emerged as the Horizon luggage. Dreamt up by Newson in 2016, it established a new benchmark for designer suitcases and became a modern Louis Vuitton icon. Think of it as today’s equivalent of the house’s original trunks for 19th-century explorers. Now, as the design approaches its 10th anniversary, it evolves once again with the launch of a new aluminium rendition.

Aluminium is unmistakably a Marc Newson material. It runs through his practice much like Monogram Canvas runs through Louis Vuitton’s. Durable, infinitely recyclable and naturally luminous, it feels perfectly suited to the Horizon Aluminum, a suitcase built for constant travel. Each shell is laser-cut before the iconic monogram is stamped directly into the metal, reinforcing both its structure and character.
What’s more, this is also the first rivet-free aluminium suitcase on the market. An ultra-thin frame system eliminates the need for folding or riveting, while concealed internal hinges create a seamless exterior. The trolley system sits outside the case, preserving every inch of interior space. Meanwhile, an extra-wide telescopic handle and oversized vibration-absorbing wheels ensure a smooth, quiet journey through every terminal.
Built to resist impact rather than avoid it, the latest Louis Vuitton luggage is designed to travel well and age gracefully. When it eventually requires attention, dedicated in-store care and repair services are available. Already spotted with celebrities from Felix of Stray Kids to Got7’s BamBam, the Horizon Aluminum looks set to find favour with frequent flyers looking for durability with a distinctly Louis Vuitton shine.
