Chanel’s annual Métiers d’Art collection weaves a fresh narrative that showcases the intricate skills of the ateliers at Le19M. Against the misty backdrop of Xihu in December 2024, models came down a runway featuring lacquered panels inspired by 19th-century coromandel screens (at 31 Rue Cambon) depicting Hangzhou’s fabled West Lake.

But the coromandel screens weren’t the only muse for the latest Métiers d’Art collection. The fawn suede sofa in Mademoiselle Gabrielle’s apartment was another key inspiration. The specific shade of beige, in particular, is mirrored in a new range of bags. Such as the all-new hobo-tote hybrid in a beautiful blend of suede calfskin and shiny lambskin. Namely the Shopping Bag or Small Tote, depending on the size.

In another clever move, Chanel combines suede and leather in bags showcasing two signature colours, beige and black, that also pay homage to the maison’s iconic two-tone shoes. The slingback pump cleverly elongated the leg with its beige body, while the black toe made the foot appear daintier.

Similarly, the new Métiers d’Art bag translates this two-tone principle into a functional accessory. This interplay between different materials and colours reiterates the signature Chanel aesthetic. Extending a design language that transcends time, it demonstrates how a foundational concept can be endlessly reinterpreted across different mediums.

The latest Métiers d’Art bag is available in a variety of sizes and shapes, from horizontal east-west iterations to the vertical north-south style. Each functional piece features a top handle and leather-interlaced chain strap, as well as the central double-C closure on the diamond-quilted suede body.
