Timepieces and fragrances share a closer link than you might think. Besides the personal emotion that resonates with the wearer, both crafts embody a delicate balance of tradition and innovation. Take, for example, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new trio of olfactory signatures. Each is co-created with Nicolas Bonneville, a self-taught French perfumer known for groundbreaking blending techniques.

The collaboration is part of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s Made Of Makers programme, an initiative that fosters partnerships with artists of different disciplines. In this case, it resulted in three masterfully crafted perfumes, each an olfactory identity for the maison.
Firstly, The Timeless Stories is a woody and leathery blend that takes inspiration from the iconic Reverso watch. Featuring notes of violet leaves, orris and leather, it recalls the redolence of the stables and saddles, as well as freshly trimmed grass on the polo field. The exact setting that spurred the creation of the Reverso, of course.
Next comes The Celestial Odyssey, which pays tribute to the moon, the sun and the stars. Let your imagination wander with this ambery and spicy cocktail. Its combination of patchouli, ambergris and vanilla evokes the celestial bodies that have long captivated watchmakers.
Lastly, The Precision Pioneer is a woody and spicy mix that represents the watchmaking process. Warm incense conjures the intense heat of the blacksmith’s fire, while vibrant wood represents the watchmaker’s bench. Essences of cedar, guaiac and oud then meld into an amber accord, serving as a bridge between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge innovation.
While you can head to the Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique at Marina Bay Sands before the end of the year to discover the scents in person, they are unfortunately not for sale. The three fragrances by Nicolas Bonneville are exclusive creations for esteemed clients of the maison, if you should be so lucky.
