In 1962, the first Omega timepiece in space made headlines. Walter Schirra wore the Speedmaster while on board the successful Sigma 7 mission that saw the spacecraft orbiting Earth six times. More than 60 years later, the Swiss watchmaker launches a special re-edition of the ‘First Omega In Space’ Speedmaster.

Part of the Speedmaster Anniversary Series, the 39.7 MM steel timepiece is based on the original CK-2998 model. Complete with the signature Dot Over Ninety bezel detailing and vintage Omega logo, as well as a few subtle tweaks.

What’s new this time includes the domed sapphire crystal with a hesalite finish and Super-LumiNova indexes. The commemorative caseback is emblazoned with the words ‘The First Omega In Space’ and the mission date encirling a seahorse motif. Boasting a vintage allure, Omega’s latest Speedmaster is a beautiful ode to a cherished original.

Powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, this timepiece is also fully certified for space travel. It features a polished and brushed steel bracelet with tapered flat links for improved comfort. Two alternative styles come with black and brown leather straps with a pin buckle for easy adjustment and everyday wear.

While the price differs depending on your strap choice, the sun-brushed blue-grey dial and technical specifications are identical. The Swiss-made ‘First Omega In Space’ Speedmaster retails at SGD10,950 for steel on leather and SGD11,450 for steel on steel.
