The cut-out slits on penny loafers serve more than just a decorative function. Its origins date back to the ’50s, when it gained immense popularity amongst men and youths. Back in the day, keeping a coin within the half-moon cut-out slot was considered fashionable, earning its moniker 'penny loafers'.

During their spring-summer 2022 runway show, Miu Miu introduced the footwear with a logo-engraved metallic ‘coin’. This cleverly positioned shiny detail has not only become a permanent fixture ever since. It also appears in styles from penny loafers to pumps, and most recently, the new Penny Leather Bag.

The handbag features an eye-catching flap that features the brand’s logo as well as a metallic ‘coin’ matching the vamp of the signature penny loafers. The ‘coin’ cleverly conceals a magnetic closure, which functions to secure the bag. Peek inside to find a roomy compartment for daily essentials, plus a zip pocket for bits and bobs.

Carry the 23 cm by 13.5 cm Penny Leather Bag via its top handle, wear it at your elbow, or even sling it over the shoulder. Should you prefer a hands-free style, the adjustable and removable leather shoulder strap will do the trick by converting it into a chic crossbody bag.

Available in Black, Briarwood and Cognac, Miu Miu’s Penny Leather Bag retails at SGD4700 in Singapore.
