Just when you thought Dior was done introducing brand new variations of the emblematic Lady Dior (such as the embroidered canvas ones known as Lady D-Lite), the French luxury house has pulled another rabbit out of its top hat with exciting new colours for the Ultra-Matte Lady Dior collection, all of which are currently available for direct-to-door delivery in Singapore.
Before diving into the colours (along with prices in SGD) proper, here’s a quick history lesson about the origins of the bag. Named after Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, after she was spotted carrying it back in 1995 during her visit to Paris, it has since gone on to become an icon of the house, identified by its boxy silhouette and DIOR metallic charms (a nod to the lucky charms which Monsieur Christian Dior always kept by his side), as well as the signature Cannage motif, inspired by the Napoleon III seats used at the legendary designer’s very first fashion show on 12 February 1947. The crisscross motif is carefully stitched onto the leather before the entire bag (made using thirty-two elements for the Medium size alone) is assembled by hand to exacting made-to-measure proportions.
Celebrating a new milestone this year (it officially turned 25, by the way), the Lady Dior has shown the ability to grow and evolve with the times, evident in the avant-garde Dior Lady Art bags done in collaboration with celebrated artists around the world, as well as seasonal introductions like the Ultra-Matte, built with the contemporary woman in mind. Aside from having a tone-on-tone finish on the body, handles and straps, each piece in the Ultra Matte line-up is given an ultra-matte coating on the hardware, done beautifully to match the bag’s colour to perfection. The bag currently comes in two sizes, Medium (24 cm by 20 cm) and Large (32 cm by 25 cm), offered in colours like Black, Cherry Red, Dusty Jade, Gray Stone, Indigo Blue and White.
Priced at SGD6600 for the Medium and SGD7200 for the Large, you can text your go-to SA right now if you would like to get your hands on it. Alternatively, you can call Dior Singapore at 1800-4159-990 and a representative will be able to link you up with the boutiques directly.
