Audemars Piguet’s latest novelty for 2020 is a captivating piece for sure, simply because the Swiss watch manufacturer has not released a Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ with diamond indexes in recent years, much less so in the relatively new extra-thin format. Most designs either come with diamonds on the bezel, or all over the dial or bracelet, but the sleek-looking piece for 2020 is kept relatively minimal, with diamond indexes replacing the luminescent-coated markers you are already familiar with. Throw in the fact that the brilliant-cut diamonds are set on a stunning Black Onyx dial, and you’ve got a winning combination like no other.

The 39 mm timepiece scores major points in terms of looks, coming in full 18-carat Pink Gold or 950 Platinum, both of which are polished to Audemars Piguet’s unrelenting standards. Measuring just 8.1 mm thick, the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin With Diamond Indexes is furnished with glare-proofed sapphire crystal and case-back, with a water resistance of 50 metres and a power reserve of 40 hours. And if there’s just one downside, the minute markers could be a tad distracting running along the edges, but then again, what’s the point of a watch if isn’t able to tell time accurately?

Now for the bad news. This very special pair of timepieces will only be sold exclusively via Yoshida in Tokyo, so unless you know someone who knows someone, it will be near impossible to snag one of the 70 platinum and 30 pink gold timepieces up for grabs.
