The numbers you see on Chanel luxury goods aren’t just random figures plucked from a random number generator. The 2.55? The date Coco Chanel created her iconic piece back in February 1955. As for 31? Well, the number draws references to 31 Rue Cambon, the place where she had her atelier, held her presentations and even where her well-appointed apartment was.

31 is also a play on the French expression ‘se mettre sur son 31’ which means dressed to the nines, which makes Chanel’s new 31 Bag the perfect accessory to take with you while you’re out and about, because dressing to the nines should be an everyday affair, right?

Aside from looking like a piece that’s inspired by vintage bags of yore, the 31 Bag is truly big on function. At first glance, the bag is like a tote, with handles you can easily tote with. Look within and you will find a double strap inside that allows you to wear it over the shoulder. Or you could simply just fold it over and it becomes a clutch, which gives you the third way you can carry this little number.

Available in just one size for now, the bag measures some 48 cm by 44 cm by 10 cm, which is large and roomy by most standards. To be made in a wide variety of materials, you’ll find everything from two-tone versions to crushed calfskin in Black that would make it the perfect number for the night, with prices starting from around SGD6000 a bag.
