The highly anticipated ‘Hyper Taping’ sneaker by ASICS and Miyake Design Studio has finally arrived. Launched under the ongoing Issey Miyake Foot project, it explores a technical deconstruction of the iconic ASICS Stripes. Long a symbol of performance, the stripes are reimagined as functional taping, a concept inspired by sports science.

Rather than sitting purely as branding, the taping becomes part of the shoe’s structure. Borrowed from athletic support systems, it helps stabilise the body while supporting natural movement. At the same time, it introduces a new visual language that feels deliberate, graphic and quietly futuristic. The result is an innovative sneaker that feels less like footwear and more like protective second skin.
Thick elastic bands wrap around the foot, creating bold linear patterns across the shoe's upper. Beneath it all, the outsole draws inspiration from wrestling mats, extending up the sides to deliver a secure, locked-in feel, while enhancing grip. Comfort completes the equation with ASICS’ FLYTEFOAM PROPEL insole and Ortholite sock liners.
Designed for all-day wear, the ‘Hyper Taping’ sneaker retails for USD220 at Issey Miyake’s online store. Beyond the fluorescent green pair first unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, it also comes in monochrome black and grey for everyday longevity.
