In 2020, Fendi launched its Hand In Hand project to celebrate the essence of craftsmanship and artistry. The initiative taps on diverse ateliers around the world to create Fendi’s iconic Baguette showcasing their rare techniques and expertise. This time around, and just after Scotland, the latest creation hails from Madagascar.
Bringing this iteration to life is Made For A Woman, a social entrepreneurship project dedicated to empowering Malagasy artisans. The unique collaboration sees a Baguette bag that reinterprets traditional Malagasy designs into an intricate pattern using three separate techniques.
Firstly, working with locally sourced raffia, the artisans hand-weave a combination of four different crochet squares. Then tying it all together, an outline of raffia in three tones unfolds in fringed edges. Finally, finishing touches feature macrame braids on its body, flap, and shoulder strap.
The bag that’s designed to be carried under the arm, as one might a baguette loaf, is also embellished with exquisite carnelian beads and a soft gold-tone buckle set with a carnelian in the centre. The result? A limited-edition Baguette bag that’s truly a work of art.
