Cartier’s line of curved oval watches officially adopted the name Baignoire in 1973. Before that, similar silhouettes like the Ovale Cintré, which launched in 1958, came with a beautiful curved case which wrapped perfectly around the wrist.

Today, the unique oval shape continues to blossom further under the Baignoire line. For those who love a bit of trivia, ‘baignoire’ is French for ‘bathtub’, a reference to its distinctive elliptical case. Each Baignoire carries with it signature elements like the domed crystal, Roman numerals and jewelled cabochon on the side. The beloved and elegant icon truly encapsulates Cartier’s Art Deco design aesthetic to perfection.

The latest to join the family is the Baignoire Mini, measuring 24.6 mm by 18.7 mm. Complete with a quartz movement and water resistance of up to 30 metres, it features an updated play on proportions, and comes in two distinct variations. The first looks much like a piece of jewellery, with a bangle-like detailing accompanying the curved oval dial. It is available in yellow or rose gold, with a third in white gold covered in pavé diamonds.

The second alternative comes in white or yellow gold with a black patent strap. Ready to enter a new era of Baignoire? You can view the Baignoire Mini (it also comes in a small size) at Cartier boutiques at ION Orchard, Marina Bay Sands and Takashimaya Shopping Centre. No word yet on its online availability, so best you head down to give it a try.
