The countdown is officially on for the highly anticipated collaboration between Louis Vuitton and renowned Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. And here’s your quick roundup of five things you must know about the upcoming collection.
01 – Firstly, who is Yayoi Kusama? Her hypnotic, avant-garde art ranks her as one of, if not the most successful living (female) artists in the world. Dubbed the princess of polka dots, Kusama has dominated the art scene with installations, paintings and sculptures decked out in enigmatic dots since her arrival in New York in 1958.
02 – Why is the collaboration so highly anticipated? That’s because this isn’t the first partnership between the two. In fact, their collaborative efforts date back to 2012, when the maison was under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs. This time around, the collection is way larger, with RTW, bags and accessories for him and her.

03 – The first drop focuses heavily on Painted Dots, a throwback to Yayoi Kusama’s hand-painted Louis Vuitton trunk circa 2012. Firstly, the artist meticulously creates each individual dot which is replicated precisely across leather goods, RTW, shoes and accessories.
Word has it that Yayoi Kusama herself presided over the challenging process, resulting in the pieces being the perfect amalgamation of art and fashion.
04 – Metal Dots, Infinity Dots and Psychedelic Flower also make an appearance in the collection. Each of these styles are a clear representation of Yayoi Kusama’s avant-garde art. Remember the artist’s signature pumpkin? Well, it appears as a bag charm on the Alma, Onthego and Speedy, for starters, as well as on 90 cm printed scarves in red and yellow.
05 – The Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration launches worldwide on 6 January 2023. In other words, just a couple of weeks to perfect your wish list before the collection lands in-store and online. The second instalment of the collection will drop on 31 March 2023, so do stay tuned for more information.
