Chanel Spring-Summer 2020 Mary Janes

Gabrielle Chanel famously said, ‘A woman with good shoes is never ugly’, and if you need proof that the lady always meant what she said, turn the clock back to the year 1957 when she created the legendary slingback shoe. It came in a bi-coloured combination of beige and black, which gave the illusion of ‘lengthening the leg’ and ‘shortening of the foot’ to yield a flattering effect like no other. The message was clear. If you wanted a good pair of shoes that was the perfect amalgamation of form and function, you would be able to find it at Chanel. Over the years, the two-tone silhouette became her go-to choice of shoes (always a low heel rather than high), paired with her signature outfits of beautiful knitwear that she wore during her casual days out and about.

Today, the Chanel you’ve come to know and love is known for its extensive selection of footwear choices. Behind that sliding door (if you’ve been to the boutique at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, you will know what this means) lies numerous goodies ranging from the simple pair of espadrilles to those coveted chunky trainers, as well as a special treat launched for Spring-Summer 2020 that is the Mary Janes.

It comes in a two-tone combination that serves the same purpose as the slingback of 1957, except this one comes in a slightly different silhouette. Each pair is secured via an ankle strap and furnished with a low heel height of 10 mm, so you never feel as though your feet are touching the ground, but high enough to get that bit of elevation to achieve the perfect posture while standing.

The beauty of Chanel’s Mary Janes lies in the fact that it can be worn for both day and night, and you will be spoilt when it comes to colour and material options. For starters, the ones in lambskin will come in the familiar Beige/Black, while Black, Grey/Black and Light Grey/Black will be made available in suede calfskin. Lovers of a sparkly treat can turn to the pieces decorated with sequins, which you can pick between Black and Ivory/Black.

Aside from the CC logo which can be spotted on the toe cap, you will also find metallic fonts with the word CHANEL fixed on the inner part of the shoe’s midsole. Now available at Chanel boutiques islandwide, the Spring-Summer 2020 Mary Janes are priced from SGD1380 each, going up to SGD1820 for the versions with sequins. Do give them a try and you just might walk out with a pair, or two.
