How often do we see special limited edition collaborations from around the world and a) lament about how they are not available locally or b) wish that we could have something special to call our own. Well, as far as Rimowa is concerned, that prayer has been answered with their collaboration with Singapore’s very own lawyer-turned-womenswear designer Ong Shunmugam. Known as the Women On A Mission capsule collection, this is also Rimowa Singapore’s first fashion collab, with not one, not two but a total of 6 different customised Classic Flight cabin trolleys, each depicting an Asian travel destination.
Featuring countries China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia and Mongolia (quick question, why no Singapore?), Ong Shunmugam interprets each destination through a selection of culture-rich fabrics. In other words, instead of relying on cultural clichés and kitschy prints, she picked fabrics based on their subtle references to each country. Applied by hand to each Classic Flight Multiwheel53 case, the fabric on the outside is complemented by another on the inside for a complete look.
