Jonathan Anderson’s swansong as creative director of Loewe focuses on a powerful collaboration with the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation. By reimagining Josef’s seminal ‘Homage to the Square’ paintings and Anni’s pioneering textile art, the collection writes a new narrative in both ready-to-wear and leather goods.

Through intricate handcrafted techniques, Anni’s richly textured weavings breathe new life into Loewe’s signature bag styles. Firstly, the Flamenco Purse will come in two hand-embroidered cotton-base jacquard iterations. One is inspired by her ‘Pasture’ tapestry, while the other features 3D wool dots that emulate her signature ‘Dotted’ tapestry.
Then comes the Hammock and Puzzle bags, both of which undergo a reinterpretation in a woven wool blend textile. Complete with matching fringe detailing, this design also draws inspiration from Anni’s tapestry art. Meanwhile, the up-and-coming Madrid bag features hand-twisted details that pay homage to her ‘Open Letter’ tapestry.

Similarly, Josef’s signature nested squares and vibrant colour blocks undergo a subliminal metamorphosis on Loewe’s iconic bags. They adapt to the architectural lines and folds that form the silhouettes of the Amazona, Madrid, Puzzle and Squeeze bags. With colours segmented into carefully considered panels, this clever study in chromatic interaction results in a functional tribute to the artist’s enduring influence.
Forming an almost marquetry-like technique on the leather bags, there are at least four colour combinations to note. Those who love deep, dark hues should consider Black/Burgundy, whereas Caramel/Bright Green caters to fans of a bolder palette. While Grey/Light Ghost and Pale Grey/Light Citrine are surprising neutrals that feature pops of white and yellow.
Part of Loewe’s fall-winter 2025 collection, the collaborative line-up launches on 28 August 2025. Prices range from SGD3400 for the Puzzle Fold tote to SGD4990 for the Flamenco Clutch. The embroidered and woven pieces are slightly pricier, with the Hammock coming in at SGD5100, while the medium Madrid tops out at SGD8650.
