Since the fall-winter 2022 season, Weekend Max Mara’s iconic Pasticcino bag has been on a world tour. Travelling from city to city, the cross-seasonal project supports artisanal excellence and crafting traditions of chosen destinations through limited-edition models. Its latest incarnation is the Treasures of Japan Pasticcino Bag.

After paying tribute to Venice’s glorious history in textile and glassmaking, as well as France’s luxurious lace and ceramics, the Pasticcino makes its first Asian stop in the culturally rich city of Kyoto. By the way, if you didn’t know, the vintage clutch takes its name from the Italian word for ‘small pastry’.

The Treasures of Japan Pasticcino Bag bows to Japan’s centuries-old rich tradition in the art of textiles and kimonos. Wearing sumptuous silk jacquards from the historical archives of revered Kyoto-based Kawashima Selkon Textiles, the clutch completely transforms. Delicate yet strong, classic yet contemporary, a removable chain tacks on extra versatility.

The boule clasps that characterise the bag’s unstructured design are also reimagined in silk cord like traditional kimono obi. Each sphere is hand-woven by craftsmen of the Bottega Nakamori-Kumihimo using precious threads in contrasting hues for a symmetrical graphic effect.

Now available at Weekend Max Mara, the special-edition Treasures of Japan Pasticcino bags come in six variants and two sizes. The small size, measuring 19 cm by 10 by 15 cm, is available in Camel, Ivory and Light Grey. Whereas the medium, at 31 cm by 13 cm by 21 cm, comes in Pink, Olive Green and Terra Cotta.
