Beyond Chanel’s quilted flap bags and tweed jackets lies a quirky side that many aren’t aware of. And there’s no better demonstration of this than #CHANELCruise’s current collection. Firstly, there were playful minaudière bags, and then SLGs modelled after racing helmets and poker chips.
Now, even costume jewellery (CJ) carries a fun, light-hearted attitude. In this case, iconic symbols transform into wearable pieces of art in the form of brooches, earrings and necklaces.
The Chanel hanger brooch (SGD1070) seems to be clipped onto a Classic Handbag, except this one is moulded in black resin, not leather. Extra glass pearls on the gold-tone metal clips are an ode to one of Mademoiselle Chanel’s favourite materials.
The other hanger brooch (SGD2130) features four strings of jewel-like ornaments neatly arranged in a single row. These range from CC logos to star-shape signs and the numerical ‘5’. Thanks to these movable elements, this enigmatic piece sways ever so slightly on your t-shirt or jacket lapel.
Finish your look with two other bag-inspired designs. The hoop earrings (SGD1510) instantly recall the cheeky hula hoop bag from Spring-Summer 2013. Except this one is shrunken down to a set of two matching black/gold ornaments for your lobes.
Chanel also introduces a long necklace (SGD1870), complete with a pink resin flap bag. The leather-interlace chain is also a nice touch, though do note that this is entirely a decorative accessory. Unlike in an SLG, personal items won’t fit within this teeny-tiny flap bag.
Fun, fresh and oh-so-quirky, which of these new-in costume jewellery pieces from #CHANELCruise do you have your heart set on?
