Today’s post isn’t about Chanel’s recently unveiled Cruise 2021 collection; that will be saved for a later date. Instead, the spotlight shines on one of the showstoppers from their Métiers d’Art 2020 collection that is due out in July 2020. Yes, this is Chanel’s MDA Quilted Trunk Set, and without further ado, here are 5 things about it you need to know.

01 – Chanel calls it an ‘ultra-refined’ jewel box, one that houses 4 of the French luxury house’s most iconic bags. The quilted box that’s crafted from lambskin leather opens via a unique key (slide it through the CC logo in front), revealing a mirror so large you can check yourself out while deciding which of the bags to use.

02 – Each box is made in France, and the mini bags are all finished with specially crafted bag jewellery (think clasps, pulls and slings) that was designed to be proportionate to the bag’s size. Yes, they are so small, measuring just 11.7 cm by 7 cm, that Chanel is calling them the new XS size. Not convinced? The smallest Mini Flap Bag that Chanel currently has now measures 17 cm by 13.5 cm, which is a giant compared to the new XS.

03 – Offered in 2 colours, you can pick it up in either Black or Dark Pink, with the 4 bags on the inside in the same matching colour as the trunk.

04 – The mini bags are all icons of Chanel, with slight differences in terms of materials and patterns between the Black and the Dark Pink set. For the set in Black, the timeless Classic will come in grained calfskin (caviar), while the Boy is paired with shiny calfskin (patent) and Chanel’s Gabrielle in a black-and-white houndstooth. As for the Dark Pink set, both the Classic and Boy are crafted in lambskin, while Chanel’s Gabrielle comes in a lovely pink tweed. Take note that the 2.55 will come in aged calfskin for both colours.

05 – It’s part of the Métiers d’Art 2020 collection, which means that it will be arriving in boutiques from July 2020. Priced at SGD40,690 for the whole set, you are basically paying for 4 uniquely sized bags and the large leather trunk, which does kinda add up if you do the math. And for those hoping for the bags to be sold individually, that’s not going to happen as far as these pieces are concerned.
