#TheCoachOriginals: Return of the Coach Turnlock

Coach has unveiled its latest line-up of bags under #TheCoachOriginals, an entire series which takes inspiration from the luxury house’s extensive archive, and it wouldn’t be surprising if you find some of them somewhat familiar looking. One that makes a celebrated return this year would be the Coach Turnlock, first introduced by Bonnie Cashin back in the 1960s when she took inspiration from the humble toggle found on the roof of her car, and fashioned a similar brass closure onto Coach’s handbags and totes.

Today, the Coach Turnlock can be found on a wide selection of bags for him and her, making sure that there’s truly something for everyone. For starters, the ladies can consider the minimal-looking Turnlock Pouch, which measures just 20 cm by 14 cm and opens to a single compartment that’s great for throwing everything in before locking it shut. Inspired by a similar Coach design from 1993, the Turnlock Pouch (SGD475) will come in four colours comprising Black, Green, Light Saddle and Windflower.

Next up, the Turnlock Lunchbox Pouch (SGD595) which comes in a boxy (almost square-like) silhouette that’s a great alternative for the everyday, especially if you find yourself needing a roomier bag that will hold a tad bit more within. It measures 15.5 cm by 15 cm with a depth of 10.5 cm, is armed with a zip pocket and several internal card slots for all your essentials, with more than sufficient space for your mobile phone, wallet and the like.

Interestingly, the Turnlock Saddle Crossbody (SGD950) can be found under the men’s section, coming in a half-moon shaped body that’s bigger and wider at 22 cm by 19.5 cm. This one opens to two compartments with two card slots and pen loops (the bag was based on a 1998 Coach design which explains why having slots for pens would come in very handy), along with a magnetic snap pocket at the exterior for all your quick access needs.

The great thing about these bags (aside from the attractive price-point) lies in the fact that they feature edge-binding construction that gives it extra resistance to daily wear and tear, constructed from Coach’s signature glove-tanned leather for a stellar finish. Don’t rush down to your nearest Coach boutique and look for them yet, as the bags are only slated to arrive later this month. What you can do is to leave your name and be informed the moment it comes, and it’s best you head down to the bigger boutiques like Marina Bay Sands and Wisma Atria for first dibs on the colour and model you have in mind.
