Gucci X Disney Grip Watch

Gucci has collaborated with Disney once again, this time featuring the beloved Mickey Mouse as the star of the Lunar New Year capsule collection which has officially landed across all Gucci boutiques in Singapore. There are plenty of items to look out for, ranging from accessories like caps and scarves to SLGs and bags that predominantly come in Mini GG Supreme Canvas (a beige/ebony fabric inspired from the archives in the 80s) decorated with Mickey Mouse all over. There’s even an assortment of RTW and shoes, so no one can stop you from dressing up in Disney x Gucci head-to-toe for the Year of The Rat which officially starts on 25 January 2020.

Now, if there’s just one particular piece that will make you sit up and take a second look, the Disney x Gucci Grip Watch would be it. It’s a fascinating timepiece for sure, with a watch face that features two separate windows to indicate the hour and minute, as opposed to conventional analogue dials modelled after a clock. The streamlined watch takes inspiration from the world of skateboarding, fitting snuggly around the wrist just like how sneakers would stick firmly onto the grip tape of a skateboard. There are currently two versions to look out for, the 35 mm yellow gold PVD with GG Supreme canvas strap (SGD2410) and a bigger 38 mm in full steel that’s priced a tad higher at SGD2560. While classic versions of Gucci’s Grip Watch feature a third date window at the bottom, the Disney edition features Mickey instead.

Gucci pride itself on creating special packaging for its limited collections (be it one-off pieces or the holidays like Christmas), and it’s no different for its latest collection. Your purchases will come in green shopping bags and boxes that feature a repeat pattern of Mickey Mouse, and your contents will be stored neatly in red fabric pouches with drawstring closures (again, decorated with Mickey here) that’s the icing on the cake.
