Chanel S/S19 Flap Bag With Pearls

As Coco Chanel once famously said, ‘Pearls are perfect for every occasion’, with numerous photographs capturing the late designer wearing ‘ropes and ropes of pearls’ around her neck. And besides just wearing them around the neck, they can also double up as interesting decorative elements on brooches, bracelets and even on bags, such as this square rendition of the popular Flap Bag.

It was first worn by Mademoiselle Chanel, when she introduced costume jewellery with large faux pearls to her customers in the 1920s. Ever since then, pearls have been a staple in the brand, with Karl Lagerfeld embellishing Chanel bags with pearls ever since he took over the house in the 80s.

And if you’ve grown tired of your conventional flap bag and are looking for something with a twist, this 15 cm by 15 cm darling that comes adorned with faux pearls that’s also from Chanel’s current Spring-Summer 2019 collection. In a square silhouette, it is made from smooth lambskin in the signature diamond quilted pattern and comes in either Black or White. Priced at SGD5490, both pieces come finished with gold-tone metallic hardware and are now available at Chanel boutiques in Singapore.
