The French leather house builds its latest release, the Boky, entirely around the idea of the fold. Its name is a playful twist on the word ‘book’, and once you know that, the design clicks into place.
Soft, layered pouches stack like pages, with stitching that echoes the seams of a bound volume. A signature twisted fold at the centre further mimics a page caught mid-turn. Polène’s artisans brush and paint each leather edge by hand, with no shortcuts standing in for a steady human touch.
Indeed, crafting each Boky demands custom tooling. A specifically customised plate thins the leather until the folds move and drape rather than sit stiff. Artisans then sew the bag inside out before flipping it to reveal its final form. In a fully bonded build, the suede lining bonds directly to the outer leather and its reinforcements. As a result, the interior is just as considered as what sits outside.
In use, the bag swings easily from crossbody to shoulder with a simple strap adjustment. Inside, two zip compartments flank a discreet central pouch. There is enough structure to organise a day’s essentials without turning the bag into a puzzle. Meanwhile, the hardware stays purposefully low-key, supporting the silhouette rather than competing with it.
Polène crafts each piece in supple, fine-grained Spanish leather that reveals a subtle texture up close. It comes in seven colourways, from the expected Black and Camel to more distinctive options like Smoky Green and Black Cherry. The range gives the silhouette real versatility and expressiveness.
