Long before it became synonymous with coveted handbags and silk scarves, Hermès built its reputation in the equestrian world. Founded in Paris in 1837 as a harness maker, the maison specialised in crafting beautiful pieces for horse and rider. Nearly two centuries later, that heritage continues to shape its design language in subtle and delightfully unexpected ways. Enter the new Doado Card Holder.
At first glance, the compact accessory, which measures 7 cm by 9.5 cm, appears understated. Crafted from scratch-resistant Epsom calfskin, it embodies the quiet sophistication Hermès does so well. Its clean lines and minimalist silhouette reveal little, though the real charm emerges once the cardholder is opened.
Inside the Doado Card Holder, precise perforations on both sides form the outline of a horse’s mane, eye and bit, paying tribute to the maison’s equestrian roots. Beneath the cutouts sits a contrasting leather layer that creates a striking peek-a-boo effect. More than a decorative flourish, the flowing curves of the horse’s mane cleverly double as functional card slots, with space on either side for cards or folded cash.
Compared to the classic Hermès Calvi, the Doado shares a similarly discreet exterior. However, it takes a far more graphic approach within. Through layered construction, contrasting colours and intricate perforations, it transforms an everyday SLG into something unexpectedly playful. It comes in seven appealing colourways: Capucine/Gold, Gris Pantin/Noir, Bleu Navy/New Bleu Jean, Craie/Terre, Rouge H/Feu, Bleu Hydra/Guimauve and Bleu Navy/Vert Yucca.
