Celine’s long-awaited alphabet charms have landed, and they arrive in three distinct categories spanning all 26 letters. Stack a few together by clipping them alongside other trinkets for a personalised bag charm, or hook them onto a gourmette brass bracelet to take your wrist game to a whole new level. However you wear them, the range is built squarely around mixing.
The showstoppers of the range are the letters crafted in lambskin. Some come padded and rounded into a soft, almost pillow-like shape, with leather that bows out at the edges rather than lay flat. Others arrive in a stark, rigid, sans-serif form. Either way, they come in an array of punchy, saturated shades. Think a cobalt-leaning blue, fire-engine red, chestnut brown, pale butter yellow and warm golden tan amongst them.
Another more austere set runs alongside the leather versions. These letters are full brass but with a rhodium finish imparting a cool, silver tone. Where the lambskin letters lean playful, these read more like fashion jewellery, rather closer in spirit to a monogram pendant than a charm. That silver-tone execution also makes them a natural neutral anchor when mixed in with the more colourful leather pieces.
The appeal of the range is clearly due to the potential for creative layering. A gourmette-style chain can hold a puffy red letter next to a smooth silver one. Then next to a mustard-yellow lambskin letter, a single hanging arrangement can feature matte leather texture and cool polished metal. Priced between SGD670 and SGD800, Celine’s entire alphabet charms range has launched in Singapore. Each letter falls into one of the three categories. Firstly, A, D, H, J, M, P, R, T, W and Y come in silver-tone rhodium brass. Then the ones in boxy, rigid leather are B, C, F, K, L, N, Q, S, X and Z. Finally, E, G, I, O, U and V come in padded lambskin, rounding out the full 26-letter set.
