Nature remains a constant source of inspiration for Diptyque. For example, its signature scents include Philosykos that’s an ode to the fig tree and Tam Dao that highlights velvety sandalwood. Now, the 63-year-old parfumerie takes things a step further with its latest collection, Les Essences de Diptyque.
The luxurious line-up sees concentrated scents, each taking inspiration from coral, mother of pearl, tree bark, water lily and desert rose respectively. But as these elements carry little scent of their own, it poses the question of what they would smell like. Hence, perfumers were given a playground to let their imagination wander.
This resulted in five poetic and intriguing eau de parfums that bring these treasures of nature to life. Firstly, the woody amber Bois Corsé, which expresses the textured outer layer of a tree. The intoxicating juice is a combination of intense black coffee absolute, sandalwood and tonka bean.

Next, Corail Oscuro conjures the contrast between fiery red coral and the darkness of the sea bed. The tribute to coral is a floral and mineral blend of soft mandarin, rose bourbon and a salty mineral accord. Then celebrate the delicate beauty of the water lily with Lilyphéa. Amber and green, fresh notes of cardamom and violet leaves pairs with sweet vanilla.
For something that’s both amber and spicy, there’s vibrant Lunamaris. Pink peppercorn, incense and rock rose come together to interpret the iridescent nuances of mother of pearl. Lastly, Rose Roche interprets the imaginary fragrance of the desert rose. A rich mix of lemon, centifolia rose and patchouli leaves a floral-citrus trail.
To match the fresh fragrance initiative, the bottles also depart from their usual oval shape. Presented in a new archetypal vessel, the contemporary design reinterprets the signature oval as windows to illustrations that tell the tale of each scent. Topped with a black spherical stopper, each bottle is endlessly refillable.
