The original City, which launched over two decades ago, has since gained cult classic status. Today, its successor is the subject of Balenciaga’s latest campaign. With Inez and Vinoodh behind the lens, it features a star-studded cast, with the likes of stylist Patricia Field and actress/model Roh Yoon Seo exuding closet cool while showcasing the bag’s grunge appeal.
Various signature elements from archival designs return in this new classic, now dubbed the Le City. These include vintage details such as the gleaming studs in shiny silver hardware, signature laced zipper pulls, as well as the lacquered leather handle complete with braided leather detailing. The choice of soft Arena lambskin also lets the bag retain its slouchy silhouette circa 2000s fashion.
It also returns in two sizes. While small measures 30 cm wide and 20 cm high, medium comes in at 37 cm by 23 cm. Priced at SGD3290 and SGD3900 respectively, both come with a removable and adjustable shoulder strap. The roomy, versatile style dresses up or down and goes from day to night as effortlessly as it ever did.
But the Le City isn’t stuck in the past either. While staying true to its timeless design, it simultaneously caters to modern tastes. Besides coming in a range of classic colours such as black, beige and white, there are vibrant new options too.
