Rimowa delves into its rich history with the relaunch of the Hammerschlag collection. The iconic design debuted in 1966 with a textured aluminium surface (Hammerschlag is German for ‘hammer blow’) and polished shine. Not only a bold departure from typical matte finishes back in the day, combining it with the unique tactile effect certainly made an eye-catching statement.
This revival continues the celebration of Rimowa’s 125-year legacy of craftsmanship. Staying true to the vintage design, the collection features re-editions of the classic Cognac leather ergonomic handle. Also present are hooks and compression straps inspired by the OG version, so this is one for fans of nostalgia.

The Hammerschlag collection comprises two designs. Firstly, measuring 48 cm wide and 35 cm high, the Hand-Carry Case is ideal for two to three days of travel. The Cabin comes in at 54 cm by 39 cm, complete with wheels and Rimowa’s stage-free telescopic handle. Its premium twill interior also features a leather zipper compartment.
By revisiting a beloved archive piece, Rimowa honours its heritage with thoughtful modern updates with the contemporary traveller in mind. To add to its exclusivity, each limited edition is individually numbered from 001/1898 to 1898/1898, while a curved luggage tag in Cognac leather accompanies each piece.
The Hammerschlag collection is more than just a piece of luggage. It’s a testament to the enduring value of Rimowa’s commitment to design excellence. Priced at SGD3290 for the Hand-Carry Case and SGD3960 for the Cabin, the Hammerschlag collection launches at selected Rimowa stores worldwide from 28 March.
