A woven bag is always a style mainstay when the warmer months roll around. And if you’ve always wondered how the natural and flexible raffia material transforms into a gorgeous bag, Dior’s latest savoir-faire video on Youtube will give you some insight.
The short making-of film takes viewers behind the scenes of the creation of this iconic Small Book Tote (SGD7200). Specifically the rendition in raffia, with a millefiori (or a thousand flowers) theme, for Spring-Summer 2023.

Offering a peek into the painstaking process, the video goes from the initial conception sketch to the completion of the final product. By its conclusion, you will truly appreciate the amount of work and artistry that goes into each creation. The exterior of the Small Book Tote is crafted in raffia (26.5 cm by 21 cm by 14 cm), crocheted by the expert hands of skilled artisans using a virtuoso crochet technique.
They create each panel separately, then meticulously assemble them to form the recognisable silhouette. The same goes for the elaborate three-dimensional flowers that adorn the tote. Each individually crocheted, the process requires extreme precision.
Another detail worth noting? A #DiorOblique logo-covered canvas pouch lines the interior (think of it as a fancy bag organiser), and also offers a couple of flat pockets for your smaller essentials. And as with all Book Tote bags, this too comes complete with the Christian Dior Paris signature on the front, exemplifying the house’s signature savoir-faire.
