Several days ago, Burberry’s social media pages (including Burberry Beauty) were wiped clean. Many attributed it to the ‘Daniel Lee' effect, seemingly a signature strategy of the incoming creative director. Pressing forward with refreshing changes, he officially rolled out his first Burberry campaign on social media in February 2023. It showcases a new visual identity featuring the equestrian knight with an uppercase serif BURBERRY logo.
But that’s not all. A reprisal of the iconic Burberry Check is at hand. Talents the likes of Liberty Ross model signature trench coats and Burberry Check accessories in the form of shawls, caps and even a swimwear set. Online too, Burberry re-introduces the iconic motif on a series of bags, all of which are available for pre-order now. The expected shipment date is slated for 10 March 2023.
For starters, check out the Check Cotton London Tote Bag which comes in two sizes. Small (SGD2690) and medium (SGD3150) measure 44 cm by 24.5 cm and 61 cm by 35 cm respectively. Both are roomy carryalls for daily use. Take it with you to the gym, on board a short flight or to a much-needed staycation. Dressier styles include the Check & Leather Mini Pocket Bag (SGD2650) and the Check & Leather Note Bag (SGD2690). Neither are exactly new designs, but this is the first time they appear in the Burberry Check motif.
The coated canvas gives it an extra element of protection, ensuring that it’s resistant to wear and easy to clean. If you need a recap, the Pocket Bag measures 26.5 cm high and 23 cm. Think of it as a versatile tote that also packs the option to carry it via the detachable shoulder strap. The Note Bag is more of a compact crossbody with a polished press-stud clasp on the front flap. Easily convert the sleek 25 cm by 18 cm piece to a clutch by removing its thin jacquard strap.
Introduced ahead of Daniel Lee’s runway debut for Burberry at London Fashion Week, these bags signal that the Burberry Check is finally making its glorious return. Are you one to jump ahead of the curve or prefer waiting it out? The choice is all yours.
