Moynat has taken a different approach to celebrating the festive season this year. Don’t expect gold tones nor a combination of red/green colours one typically associates with year-end holidays. The French maison opted instead to work with Mark Herald for a nature-inspired collection.

Titled Le Jardin Anglais (or The English Garden), the whimsical line-up features a beautiful paper-cut design that takes inspiration from the flora and fauna in the English countryside.

Imagine a scenic landscape of birds perching upon berry-laden trees, translating into the enchanting artwork for Moynat’s signature leather goods. Now, these motifs aren’t simply printed on the leather, but instead formed using a leather marquetry technique.

Think of it as an exquisite leather jigsaw puzzle of Mark Herald’s The English Garden, all crafted by hand in Moynat’s ateliers in France. It requires utmost precision and skill from expert artisans, who cut individual leather parts to form the pattern.

The collection comprises two key bag styles, namely the Duo Tote (SGD4600) and Flori PM (SGD7800). Both come in either Tourterelle/Capucine or Mesange/Lavender. Smaller accessories include the Zippy Compact (SGD1300) wallet and the irresistible Macaron Charm (SGD340), which make for excellent festive gifts.

Not only does leather marquetry require immense artistry to execute, but it’s also a way for Moynat to repurpose surplus leather from seasons past. This approach using quality materials is equal parts impressive and sustainable for the environment.
