Apple’s Fall Keynote is one of the biggest events in the calendar year. Freshly announced at Cupertino, California, the tech giant introduced a stellar line-up. These comprise the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and Apple Watch Series 8, along with new versions of the AirPods Pro and Apple Watch SE.

Most of them seem to be regular updates with improved features. However, there was one standout design that left the fans wanting more. Yes, here’s your closer look at the new Apple Watch Ultra, a powerful device built for all your adventures. Now, before you charge into Apple Singapore to get your hands on one, here are five things to know about the upcoming timepiece.

01 – The Apple Watch Ultra sports a 49 mm case with a flat sapphire crystal. This makes it the biggest (and brightest) Apple Watch to date. Each watch is crafted in aerospace-grade titanium, making it the perfect material to withstand corrosion, scratches and sporting adventures. In other words, you can get rough with no worries at all, thanks to the titanium case. It covers all edges of the display to protect it from impact.

02 – In daylight, the screen of the Apple Watch Ultra is capable of peaking at 2000 nits. This makes it brighter (twice, to be specific) than the regular Apple Watch. Expect greater clarity for easy access to features like workout information and the like.

In night mode, you can easily switch to the Wayfinder watch face, which turns to a bold red display. It features a live compass easily readable in low light situations. This effect is built only for the Apple Watch Ultra, accessible via the updated Digital Crown on the side.

03 – At 36 hours of normal use, the Apple Watch Ultra has the best battery life in the family. You can even extend it up to 60 hours if you switch to the low-power setting. Other impressive features include three built-in microphones for improved sound quality and a GPS antenna for all-time accurate location. Joining them is a siren (86-decibel sound pattern) which can bring help from up to 180 metres away.

04 – There are three specialised straps perfect for taking on the outdoors. One of them is the Trail Loop, otherwise known as the thinnest Apple Watch band. Its woven texture lets it wrap easily around the wrist. Love a sporty style? Go for the Alpine Loop comprising two integrated layers made from high-strength yarn, complete with a titanium G-hook fastener.

Those who love taking on water sports and recreational scuba diving can zoom in on the Ocean Band. Made from flexible fluoro-elastomer, this elongated strap also comes with an optional tail. This lets you secure over your wetsuit with ease. In partnership with Hush Outdoors, Apple also developed the Oceanic+ app. Its personalised user profile saves information on dive metrics and the like.

05You can start placing your pre-order for the Apple Watch Ultra, with in-store launches commencing from 23 September. No matter your choice of watch strap, all timepieces will retail at SGD1199 each. In a single 49 mm size in full titanium, for now, who else is excited for the Apple Watch Ultra?
