Chanel is known for its outstanding selection of fragrances, from classics like the iconic N°5 to the spirited Chance. What you may not know is that the maison also has a more discreet range of perfumes dubbed Les Exclusifs de Chanel.

This brings us to the main subject of today’s post, the N°22 Les Exclusifs de Chanel, a variation of the legendary N°5.

A year after composing the N°5 Parfum in 1921, perfumer Ernest Beaux presented a variation with a delicately worked accord that leaves a caressing trail. And just like that, N°22 was born in 1922, exactly a century ago.

Named after the year of its birth, the scent resonates like an absolute of femininity. The smooth, tender and powdery concoction is a floral aldehyde fragrance which features a stunning bouquet of tuberose, rose and orange blossom, along with notes of neroli, lily-of-the-valley and of course, aldehydes.

Seeing as N°22 is a variation of N°5, it comes as no surprise that at first whiff, the burst of cool aldehydes immediately recalls the latter. But let it rest and you’ll get a gentler, more powdery scent that’s fresher and cleaner, with an abstract bouquet of flowers that makes it an elegant and refined choice for any occasion.
