Chanel has been constantly updating its beloved J12 over the years, with the Caliber 12.1 self-winding movement launched back in 2019, and the Caliber 12.2 Edition 1 more recently unveiled in September 2021.

2022 marks yet another new chapter for the celebrated timepiece, this time with the J12 33 mm sporting the new Caliber 12.2 as a permanent feature going forth.

A huge step up from the J12 quartz movement, this new line of timepieces were designed by Arnaud Chastaingt (director of Chanel’s Watchmaking Creation Studio) before being developed in the Chanel Manufacture at La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland.

The star of each timepiece has to be the Caliber 12.2, a self-winding movement fully created by Swiss Manufacture Kenissi exclusively for Chanel. This new self-winding Manufacture movement is also chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Expertise), and it has a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.

All 174 components of the Caliber 12.1 were redesigned to fit into the miniaturised Caliber 12.2, and this explains why smaller models like the J12 33 mm will finally be getting an update this year. Specific parts were adjusted for optimum performance, and you can view (and appreciate) the Caliber 12.2 through the beautiful sapphire crystal caseback.

Retailing for SGD10,500 each, you can look forward to two different models in black and white highly scratch-resistant ceramic with a steel case. Not only is it perfect for daily wear, but the iconic J12 33 mm is still the one to watch (no pun intended) from Chanel’s recent Watches & Wonders 2022 line-up for its everyday versatility.
