Believe it or not, the Royal Oak will be officially celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022. To mark this milestone, Audemars Piguet has launched four exclusive timepieces in 18K pink gold and yellow gold, as well as platinum and steel versions for the new “Jumbo” Extra-Thin.

Replacing the Calibre 2121 (one that AP has been using for the Royal Oak since 1972) is the Calibre 7121 that features a new self-winding hour, minute and date movement.

All four 38 mm timepieces are part of the new Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin collection, with extra emphasis placed on the 8.1 mm “jumbo” (reference 16202) case fitted with the Calibre 7121 movement, all without changing the overall aesthetic and size.

Created by Audemars Piguet’s expert engineers after five years of research and development, the new movement features a larger barrel that keeps the time precise for longer periods, together with a low-energy date-setting mechanism.

Other refined elements like the ‘Côtes de Genève’, ‘traits tirés’ and circular graining haute horlogerie decorations can also be viewed through the sapphire case back, adding a precious touch to these 50th anniversary timepieces. A noteworthy point includes the open worked oscillating weight in 22-carat gold made to match the colour of each case, accompanied by the “50 YEARS” logo and engraved Audemars Piguet signature typically reserved for complicated timepieces.

Keen to find out the key specifications of each timepiece? Well, you can start with the stainless steel version paired with the iconic Petite Tapisserie dial in the specific shade of Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 (or ‘night blue, cloud 50’).

The next two in 18K pink and yellow gold each come with smoky grey and smoked yellow-gold tones respectively. The result is a shimmery effect on the Petite Tapisserie dial, complemented with gold hour markers for a truly precious touch.

The fourth and final design is the most exclusive of them all, coming in a 950 platinum case and bracelet with the smoked green dial atop the sunburst base pattern. This specific hue is created by adding green-coloured drops on the protective varnish, further accentuated by the smoky effect on the periphery to create extra depth.

The first Royal Oak in platinum made its debut in the 1980s, and it continues to be produced only in limited quantities with exclusive dials for the precious metal today. These pieces are ready to be discovered at Audemars Piguet boutiques in Liat Towers and Marina Bay Sands, as well as The Hour Glass at Paragon Shopping Centre.
