Who else remembers Balenciaga’s Bazar shopping bags which were all the rage back in 2016? Fashion critics were quick to call them out for their cheeky inspired design, but the fact that they were crafted in full leather made them an unexpected luxury find that came with Balenciaga’s twist. Dreamt up by Demna, these shoppers were quick to fly off the shelves, and they eventually came in smaller sizes that were perfect for carrying around like a mini tote.
And the good news is that a similar style is now available in the boutiques, carrying a brand new name known as the Barbès. The classic ‘vertical stripes’ versions are still available in multicoloured combinations, but these check-printed versions are completely new.

The East-West Shopper Bag comes in 2 sizes, with the medium size (SGD2250) measuring 31 cm wide and 27 cm high, while the large one (SGD2850) is significantly bigger at 50 cm by 40 cm. Each bag is crafted from a check-printed (and embossed) calfskin, with the material made to look like a canvas shopper from afar.
Each tote can be carried via the dual top handles, and you will also find two longer removable straps (35 cm drop length) that will allow you to sling them comfortably over the shoulder as well.
Something new but strangely similar to the Bazar from several years back, the unisex Barbès aims to be a fun addition that looks set on becoming a new favourite of the house, and you will be able to find a multitude of designs available at Balenciaga boutiques in Marina Bay Sands and Paragon Shopping Centre. Alternatively, you can shop online via their e-commerce site, something which can be done in the comfort of your home.
