Hermès: As Small As It Gets, Meet The Mini Bolide

One of the oldest designs you’ll find at Hermès today, the Bolide was created back in 1923 as a handbag which travellers could keep easily within their larger trunks and suitcases. It was also the first Hermès bag that came with a zip fastener (brought back from America by Émile Hermès in the 1910s), fixed atop the dome-shaped upper that makes it extra easy for you to reach for your contents within. A fuss-free bag that came without any logos or hardware (no Kelly twist locks or padlock here), the Bolide eventually grew to become one of the classic icons that is still loved today.

While the bigger sizes like the Bolide 27 and Bolide 31 might be consistently available at the boutiques as well as Hermès Singapore’s online store, the same cannot be said for the one in the mini size. It’s an elusive one (much like the Mini Lindy, for example) that’s almost always snapped up the moment it lands on the shelves. The Mini Bolide is a popular choice for obvious reasons, thanks to its dainty proportions that measure just 18.5 cm wide and 14.5 cm high. You can opt to wear it over the shoulder or across the body, or carry it via the dual top handles like a chic top handle number.

And despite smaller bags becoming the norm these days, the Mini Bolide is still one to steal the thunder whenever you’re out and about. You will find it available in Evercolor calfskin and Mysore goatskin leathers, both of which are soft and supple leathers complete with a lightly grained finish. Prices are around SGD7800 each depending on the leather of your choice, and you might be able to spot it online every now and then if you’re lucky enough.
