Prada Galleria: The Forever Icon

Once an icon, always an icon. Yes, that’s basically what Prada’s classic Galleria is, celebrating almost 15 years after it was first introduced in 2007 by Miuccia Prada. One that has definitely endured the test of time (and the trends that came and went), consider this your trip down memory lane and/or quick refresher on this bag.

For those who love a little bit of history, the Galleria is named after Prada’s flagship Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II boutique in Milan, one of the oldest (and still active) shopping galleries and a major landmark of the city. Created to pay homage to Mario Prada (Miuccia Prada’s grandfather and founder of the luxury brand back in 1913), it was launched in Saffiano leather, the go-to choice if you love a scratch- and water-resistant calfskin thanks to the crosshatched texture pioneered (and patented) by the founder himself.

Today, you will find it in 4 different sizes and a myriad of colours, but the magic is that the silhouette and shape remain the same, standing tall in the stiff and structured Saffiano leather. The sleek lines pave the way to a fully functional handbag, complete with dual top handles and zippered compartments that are all important elements for the woman in need of a practical work (or play) bag for the everyday, depending on the size you decide on.

The craftsmanship in the Galleria is evident in the tiniest details that are best appreciated up close. From the raw edges which are smoothened and then hand-painted, to the industrial precision and combination of materials (each bag comprises 83 individual pieces) that are only made possible by expert artisans in Italy.

Sealed with Prada’s triangle logo right in front, you will be pleased to find the bag available in sizes like the MicroMiniSmall and Large, priced from SGD3100 and up. And whether you prefer darker shades like Black and Slate Grey or vibrant hues like Fiery Red and Sunny Yellow, you can count on the Galleria to deliver just that, all of which are now available at Prada Singapore’s online store and in their boutiques islandwide.
