 – The double convex shape (over at the back of the case) is a thoughtful feature that makes it extra comfortable when worn, but the key highlight of the watch has got to be the ‘blue bubble’ tucked under the metal arc at the 3 o’clock position. Encapsulated with a fluted metal ring and set within the crown protector, it has grown to become a true signature of the watch, effectively the ‘blue’ in Ballon Bleu.

– The other ‘blue’ element of the watch can be found over on the steel hands, a precious element done using a complex heating process that causes the steel to change in colour. Not only does it add a pop of colour, but the blue oxidation also keeps the hands from changing colour over time, making this a cherished timepiece that will weather the test of time.

 – As for the dial, the Ballon Bleu features a flinqué motif created by press stamping, before it’s polished by hand and given a sun-ray effect with a silver finish. In total, this requires approximately 15 different actions just to create the dial, so you can only imagine the amount of work that goes into making the entire watch from start to finish.

 – The 1847 MC is a movement manufactured entirely by Cartier and you can count on its accuracy and reliability (-3 /+7 seconds per day) for signature timepieces like the Ballon Bleu as well.

 – Lastly, the ‘H-link’ bracelet on the metallic versions come with a combination of brushed and polished links, forming an eye-catching effect that glistens under light. Newer versions of the Ballon Bleu from 2019 also come with the interchangeable folding buckle, allowing you to switch them out depending on your needs.
