Just when you thought Au Départ’s signature trunk could not get any smaller, the recently revived French trunk maker has unveiled an all-new Nano Trunk, available in both the classic rectangular format as well as the fun hexagonal shape, both of which are smaller than small.

Measuring 21 cm at its widest, both versions of the Nano Trunk feature a jacquard canvas exterior, decorated with the geometric monogram print that dates back to the early 1900s. The black leather trims give it an added touch of luxe while providing a hard-sided structure that will allow it to sit upright at all times. Each bag is also equipped with the metallic snap closure, opening like a clutch to reveal a suede-lined interior to keep all your precious bits and bobs. Yes, the Nano Trunk is sold together with a leather shoulder strap, giving you an extra option of carrying the bag over the shoulder or slung across the body.

If you’re wondering why there’s a pretty big difference in terms of price, that’s because the classic Nano Trunk (EUR3600) comes with reinforced metallic corners front and back, while the Hexagon Nano Trunk (EUR2200) does not. The additional elements are made to echo the original trunks popularised by Au Départ back in the day, which explains the extra man hours and materials to complete the final piece. That said, both designs are equipped with metallic rivets over on the leather edges, so you can be sure that they are built to withstand wear that might arise from daily usage.
