Louis Vuitton has been steadily increasing its smaller hard-sided offerings of late, specifically with pieces like the Clutch Box and Wallet Trunk, which is a hybrid that saddles between bags and trunks. Both pieces aren’t exactly new designs at Louis Vuitton, but rather signature styles that are now officially part of their line-up for now.
The Clutch Box, for one, is a style that was introduced in Kim Jones’ tenure as Creative Director of the house (anyone remembers the Monogram Titanium version?), recently revived this year in Monogram Eclipse and Monogram Macassar, featuring a coated canvas exterior with black leather trims. It’s a truly solid piece that definitely packs a punch, measuring 24.5 cm by 16.5 cm that makes it the perfect statement piece. The Clutch Box (SGD9850) opens to two gusseted compartments and a zipped pocket to keep you well-organised. It’s also equipped with an adjustable strap that allows for different ways of carrying across the body and over the shoulder.

You would have seen the Wallet Trunk (created by Virgil Abloh) in several different variations like Monogram Tuffetage and the leather previously, but nothing comes quite as close as the monogram canvas pieces in grey-black Monogram Eclipse and brown-black Monogram Macassar. Think of it as the compact version of the Clutch Box, measuring 23.5 cm by 13.5 cm, with a narrower depth of 6.5 cm. While it does not come with a shoulder strap, Louis Vuitton has equipped the Wallet Trunk (SGD8450) with a removable wrist strap, making it a practical offering for evenings when you prefer a slimmer (and sleeker) design.
Yes, both the Clutch Box and the Wallet Trunk might be priced higher than an average Louis Vuitton bag, but you have to understand that they are hard-sided pieces finished with metallic corners, wooden side slats and palladium rivets. In other words, they possess exceptional elements that cannot be found on softer bags and leather goods, with a slightly higher price tag that is more than made up by its solid good looks.
