Hermès 24/24 – 21 Bag

Back in Pre-Fall 2018, Hermès unveiled the 24/24 on the runway, and several bag aficionados were quick to point out its similarities to the Birkin and the Kelly. But that did not stop the 24/24 from being a popular bag style over the years, one that’s often sold out the moment it appears over on Hermès Singapore’s online store, for example.

Relatively easier to acquire than her trio of unicorn siblings, it does carry several elements from the two. There’s the signature turn clasp (rendered in an oversized format), as well as the arched top handle that’s also synonymous with the Birkin and the Kelly.

Today, Hermès has introduced a new 21 size (POA), shrinking down the bag’s proportions to just 21 cm wide and 16 cm high. It will come in a combination of Evercolor (base) and Swift (the rigid flap) calfskin and will be available in a wide range of colours like Gold, Gris Étain and Rouge Piment, paired with either GHW or PHW.

Hermès has designed the bag to be a casual style meant to be carried from day to night (hence the name), and the 24/24 – 21 can be worn in several different ways (belt bag, backpack and sling bag, the choice is yours), thanks to a reworked strap just for this new size. Turn it around and you will find two ring loops at the back, allowing you to convert the long shoulder strap as you please.

This makes it rather similar to the versatile Kelly Danse, except the 24/24 – 21 is much roomier in comparison, along with a top handle that gives it an extra point in terms of versatility. With a zipped pocket inside and another compartment on the outside, the 24/24 – 21 makes for a full-fledged bag that’s great for the everyday, which can only be a good thing since ‘smaller than small’ is still very much in.
