Gucci: 5 Fake/Not Bags To Check Out

While the revival of the #GucciJackie1961 bag might have stolen the show at Gucci’s Fall-Winter 2020 runway show, the Fake/Not designs from the men’s collection came in a close second. Not a surprise, considering they were all emblazoned with the word FAKE in bright yellow right in front.

Starting with the smallest piece, there’s the Billfold Wallet (SGD590) which comes with 8 card slots and 2 bill compartments. The sleek silhouette will fit easily into your pocket, which is always handy. Next up would be the Cosmetic Case (SGD980), a deceptively simple-looking toiletries bag that doubles up as a cool clutch. Then there’s the Belt Bag (SGD1530) which comes in several sizes for your choosing. The brown leather belt can be removed and used on its own, or you can pair it together with the accompanying bag to give you a versatile two-in-one that can be worn high on the waist or low on the hip.

For larger bags, there’s the Medium Backpack (SGD2700) if you’re one to carry loads daily, roomy enough to fit your laptop and other bigger essentials. Gucci has also added the Beauty Case (SGD5100) into the Fake/Not collection, a structured design finished with gold-tone hardware for that vintage look. This beauty (literally) can be carried via the top handle, or you can attach the accompanying strap and sling it casually across the body.

All the pieces come with bi-coloured stripes and not the usual blue-red-white or green-red-green combinations that are synonymous with Gucci these days, and that’s because Alessandro Michele drew inspiration from the appropriation of logos (actual fakes, yes) back in the early ‘80s, so the pairing of a seemingly odd stripe in combination with the word FAKE makes it a clever design. And if that’s not enough, you will find the word NOT at the back of every piece, re-affirming the fact that you’re getting a 100% legitimate Gucci bag from their Fall-Winter 2020 collection.
