Whoever said that the Book Tote will just be a passing trend obviously did not get the memo, as Dior continues to make it a regular fixture on the runway, even appearing in numerous looks at the latest Spring-Summer 2020 show last week. Now, if you’re in tune with the fashion calendar and launch schedules, then you would know that Spring-Summer collections will only arrive in stores between February and March. In other words, if you want in on the newest designs for the Book Tote right now, then you will have to turn to Winter 2020’s selections which come fully embroidered in velvet.

The #DiorOblique version has launched in Singapore, coming in colours such as Blue and Burgundy which carry deeper darker hues in comparison to the ones in canvas. Yes, velvet is technically considered a more precious material when you take in the fact that it comes in an ultra-soft surface, but you can’t deny its stellar good looks, especially with the intricate embroidery that appears to give a lovely 3D effect like no other.

As for the ones in Cannage, both Blue and Green will only arrive in the next couple of months, but you can leave your name and make a pre-order to secure your piece ahead of the official launch. In all honesty, Green is the perfect colour for Christmas, and it’s one of the rarer hues that are mostly limited to seasonal collections (or reserved for Harrods, for example), so do what you must if you’re an avid collector of all-things Book Tote.

Seasonal variations of the Book Tote tend to be priced higher than the ones in classic canvas, especially with the embroidered velvet ones which are technically more time-consuming to produce. In Singapore, both the #DiorOblique and Cannage versions are priced at SGD4600 for the Small Book Tote, and down to limited quantities at the boutiques in ION Orchard, Marina Bay Sands and Takashimaya Shopping Centre. Also, quick pro tip. When in doubt regarding the size, always go for the Small Book Tote (36.5 cm by 28 cm), which is large enough for your MacBook 13” and then some. Really.
