Chanel Métiers d’Art 2020: All That Glitters Is Gold

The time has come for Chanel’s annual Métiers d’Art collection to arrive at the boutiques in Singapore, and this season’s line-up proves to be even better than the one before, thanks to the bold and exciting creations which pay homage to the emblematic codes of the French luxury house. There are numerous references like the iconic CC pleated on silk white tops (and appearing on handbags, of course), as well as the camellia that’s elevated even further by Lemarié with a sparkling jewelled centre. Not forgetting the bow that was frequently spotted on Gabrielle Chanel, now playfully reinterpreted by Virginie Viard on a selection of belts and shoes, forming the perfect embellishment that’s chic and elegant all at once.

Speaking of shoes, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the two-toned pumps (SGD1380) made by Massaro for Métiers d’Art 2020, especially the one in gold laminated lambskin that’s a real stunner even from afar. It comes with a heel height of 8 cm, and is furnished with a black bow strap that makes for a cheeky addition to an otherwise ‘serious-looking’ pair of shiny pumps.

Gold is one of the five colours of Chanel, and it comes without surprise that it appears as a key element on bags like the Classic Handbag (SGD13,830) and Small Kiss-Lock Bag (SGD6350). While the leather-interlaced chain is typically found as an element on the shoulder strap, this Métiers d’Art 2020 version comes fully decorated with an intricate chain pattern all over the front flap as well, making it a true work of art that you cannot miss out on. It exemplifies the craftsmanship of the ateliers, with the choice of having a velvet body being a smart option that counters the weight of the metalwork upper. The Small Kiss-Lock Bag, on the other hand, is a cute pouch that measures 14 cm by 11 cm, armed with two straps for you to carry as you please. The shorter chain can be great if you want to hold it daintily like a mini pouch, while the longer strap can be used for days when you prefer to go hands-free.

The pairing of black and gold has always been a consistent theme at Chanel, demonstrated even further by this season’s offerings done by the expert ateliers of the French luxury house. From bags to shoes, and so much more, Chanel has given the fans much to look forward to in its Métiers d’Art 2020 collection, with more goodies like the beloved Birdcage Bag to be unveiled in greater detail in the days to come.
