Chanel continues to update its signature designs like the 2.55 and Classic Handbag season after season while introducing fresh and exciting designs that will pique your interest time after time. There’s always a new minaudière (the key highlight of every runway show), with this season’s interpretation being the Evening Bag that was inspired by the birdcage ornament found in Coco Chanel’s Rue Cambon apartment. But if fancy evening bags aren’t exactly your thing, the Parisian luxury brand has also introduced brand new silhouettes that you can carry daily, such as the Accordion Handbag which made its debut at the Métiers d’Art 2020 collection.

At first glance, you might draw comparisons with the Grand Shopping Tote (or GST for short), but there are apparent differences between the two. Turn the bag to the side, and you will notice the pleated design, allowing the bag to fan out like an accordion (hence the name) and giving you plenty of room for a good day’s worth of essentials. Other differences include the material, with the Accordion Handbag coming in smooth calfskin (as opposed to Caviar typically found on the GST), as well as the embellished CC logo that comes in the beautiful leather-interlaced chain design.

As for the size, it will come in two. The Small Accordion Handbag (SGD5860) measures 20 cm by 15 cm, while the regular Accordion Handbag (SGD6350) is slightly bigger at 23.5 cm by 18.5 cm. Both sizes will come in colours like the classic Black, bright Pink and a bold cherry Red, with more hues possibly available at the boutiques in Marina Bay Sands and Takashimaya Shopping Centre when the collection officially drops later this month. Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collections have always been known for their intricate designs with the house métiers like Lemarié and Lesage creating special pieces, but there are also great everyday pieces like this bag which will appeal to the ladies looking for a handy carryall that has enough ‘bling’ but still ranks high on function.
