Cartier Maillon De Cartier Watch

If there’s just one word to describe the recently launched Maillon de Cartier watch, sublime would be it. The intricate chain-link bracelet is pretty much perfection, rendered in full 18K gold that’s flawlessly entwined to create the graphically pleasing elegant flow of motion. Cartier mastered the architectural design (after creating 35 different prototypes) by arranging the rectangular links in a 32-degree angle, creating a stunning visual effect that matches the hexagonal watch dial to a T.

The French luxury brand calls it a jewellery watch, and it isn’t difficult to understand why. There are no visible screws, and the only way to put it on (and take it off) is via the hidden clasp tucked within the beautiful chain-link bracelet. While you are familiar with some of the other jewellery watches (like the Panthère, for example), the Maillon de Cartier is a fresh new take that manages to integrate a watch case without compromising on the elaborate chain-link gourmette design. The Maillon de Cartier also had its fair share of challenges in terms of conceptualisation and development, which gives extra reasons why everyone should be able to celebrate its success story.

To ensure that the geometrical bracelet remains comfortable on the wrist, Cartier had to work on numerous iterations at the design studio to define the connections and links, without compromising on the weight of the bracelet. Also, the timepiece has to remain flexible enough without looking awkward (none of the links should jut out unnecessarily, for example), which is why extra care and effort was taken to refine the ergonomics of the timepiece.

Today, you will find the Maillon de Cartier available in 5 different designs. The first four come in Cartier’s signature silvered sun-ray dial, with black Roman numerals and blue sword hands incorporated within the hexagonal watch case. This includes the 18K Yellow Gold (SGD34,600), 18K Rose Gold with Diamond Crown (SGD42,800), 18K White Gold with Diamond Crown (SGD46,100), and the show-stopping 18K Rose Gold with Diamonds (SGD149,000) that comes with 401 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bracelet, case and crown.

The pièce de résistance of the entire Maillon de Cartier collection has got to be the 18K White Gold with Full Diamonds (SGD165,000), adorned with 487 brilliant-cut diamonds set on the bracelet, crown, case and dial. All 5 watches are all quartz movement and feature the exact same size, measuring 16 mm by 17 mm for the watch face and boasting a sleek case that stands at just 6.8 mm thin. Before you head over to view (or purchase) them online at Cartier Singapore, just take a moment to appreciate the intricacies that go into the Maillon de Cartier; this new jewellery watch collection is definitely an heirloom-worthy one that will last for generations to come.
